WORKING MEETINGS SUMMIT2006

July 3-4
THE CIVIL G8 – 2006 INTERNATIONAL NGO FORUM place International Trade Center, 12 Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment, Moscow

The Civil G8 – 2006 International NGO Forum meets shortly before the G8 summit (St. Petersburg, July 15-17), on July 3-4, 2006, at the International Trade Center, 12 Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment, Moscow.

The Forum was started by public organizations based in Russia and other countries. When the Civil G8 – 2006 project was announced toward the end of 2005, its founders declared that its goals were to safeguard the achievements of previous years in NGO cooperation with the G6, 7 and 8, and attempt to raise such cooperation to a new level.

The Forum aims to discuss problems of international public concern in connection with the upcoming St. Petersburg G8 summit; elaborate on stances adopted by non-governmental organizations at the Civil Forum in March 2006; and formulate proposals to be taken into consideration as agendas are drawn up for future G8 summits.

The number of Forum participants will exceed 500, according to preliminary estimates. In addition to the G8 countries, they will represent non-governmental organizations from all over the world, including such well-known international and Russian NGOs as the Montreal International Forum, Social Watch, CIVICUS, Oxfam, WWF, Amnesty International, International Helsinki Group, Greenpeace, Climate Action Network, Charities Aid Foundation, Social Contract, International Social-Ecological Union, International Fuel and Energy Association, and the Association of Foreign Students in Russia, to name but a few.
